American Restoration Movement
The Churches of Christ are part of the American Restoration Movement which originally sought to imitate the early church in faith and practice. We are still trying to do this today! With the early Restoration Movement leaders, we confess that “we are Christians only, but not the only Christians.” At their best, the Churches of Christ seek to offer a theologically robust articulation of the Christian faith while fostering an environment of authentic, biblically-based community among the people of God and centered around the person of Christ.
North Central's Beliefs
At North Central, we recognize that biblical interpretation and theological discourse are not always easy. We welcome people from all different types of backgrounds as we all do our best to follow Jesus and live grace-oriented lives. However, if you are looking for a basic set of beliefs that we hope everyone at
North Central confirms, here is a start:
North Central confirms, here is a start:
We believe in one God, the Father, creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father.
Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day, He rose again!
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit and the people of God, or the church universal.
We believe in the communion of God’s people and in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We believe in the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Our History
In 1825, some of the early Restoration Movement preachers visited the Bloomington Church of Christ, who had been meeting together since about 1820. We mark this as the beginning of the North Central Church of Christ, as it is now known. Meetings were held in the basement of the Monroe County Courthouse. A lot was purchased on 5th Street (now Kirkwood Ave.), in May 1826. The church grew, and by 1911 a building was constructed at 4th and Lincoln Street, in Bloomington. In March 1967, the current sight at 2121 North Dunn Street, became the congregational North Central Church of Christ. In 2018, we completely renovated the downstairs area where our Student and Family Ministry takes place. We are proud of our past and excited about our future!
